Jefferson City is the capital of Missouri and the county seat of Cole County. The historic capitol building sits along the banks of the Missouri River in downtown Jefferson City.

State government is the city’s primary industry. Lincoln University, which was founded in 1866, is also located in Jefferson City. Almost 40,000 residents live in the Capitol City, which is just 30 miles south of Columbia and 40 miles north of the Lake of the Ozarks.
