IRS increases standard mileage rate to 58.5 cents per mile The Internal Revenue Service has announced that the optional standard mileage rate has increased 8 cents to 58.5 cents per mile for all business miles driven on or after July 1, 2008, up from 50.5 cents for the first six months of the year. The increased rate used for computing deductible medical or moving expenses is 27 cents per mile. The 14 cents-per-mile rate used for providing services to charitable organizations is set by statute and did not change.
